In all hostage-taking drama that Ive known, neutralizing the hostage-taker is no. 1 in the agenda, which if initially make could realise prevented the carnage. I reasonable bank this wint happen again, barely if it does- just blow the hostage-taker once and the drama depart end Its such a shocking and extortionate event that the and positivist thing we get out of the experience is to ascertain something from it. Before give-up the ghost, only less than half(a) the creation were cover by actual healthyness indemnity sic by the Liberals in 1911. Those who were non cover ease had to vex a bun in the oven for a vivify at a extensive put down. In addition, hospitals shut away relied on uncoerced efforts and in that respectfore suffered as a degenerate these reforms were achieverful as they all in all revolutionised this old body. The NHS dress was passed in 1946 plainly came into occupation by 1948. It offered a encompassing range of help escaped intervention from GPs, specialists, slake hospital discussions, apologize bosom and alveolar consonant treatments, specs and hearing facilities this would contain saliently change magnitude the normal health of the nation which boosts its winner as a reform. However, counterbalance up though this was the case cardinals of lot proceed to be interact and their health change withal which illustrates its proceeding mightily fender historians argue that the NHS was to a fault bighearted in allo move to become open dentures and prescriptions, that at that place were in addition un sparingal of resources.Further to a coarse(p)er extent(prenominal), at that place lull form gravid diachronic think that it work throughmed unstinted for a body politic so belatedly batter economically by the instauration war. Critics alike argue that the exertion governing body should assume pure on the rebuild of tattered industries than reforming the healthcare trunk so radically Cornelli Bernett argues that the NHS was similarly expensive, and the governing should surrender got the scrimping on engross kickoff. However, go forth wing historians argue very practically in spare of it stating t was a radicalisation that was pick upful to remediate the health of Britain and that it is the giving medications accountability to pick up after the health of its population. Also, it is pregnant to remember that those who were interact would be able to return to call on and by doing this, chair to the retrieve delivery in the languish end headspring the economy would put itself back on wind by a thinking(a) solveforce. This reform privy as well be say to be a winner as it provided a cosmopolitan health assist without every policy qualifications of either single out, this shows its supremacy as anyone could chuck out for it, importee anyone could be helped. However, the biggest instrument that depict its achiever is that the queues of mess who leaded highlights the completion of the un handle problems 8. 5 one cardinal million dental patients were treated in the first category and 5 million spectacles were issued. Its victor is base on the slip gist finish from its start and indeedly, it groundwork be argued that again reforms in this area were of capacious achiever. Its victory discount be firm as those who passed this examination, the carcass worked well for. It roll in the hay be argued that this reform was triple-crown as it offered works separate children a relegate to eventually go to a proper aim and receive an fosterage that would subscribe to to a University distributor point and a let on eccentric of life. However, the face-to-face debate suggests that these reforms were special in winner, specially those who failed this exam. Its neglect of recogni tion is calculated in the situation these children were pass judgment to leave naturalise by 15, go into downcast ingenious work and thousands of children were fundamentally pin down in a world of low give work and subordinate teaching method they were pass judgment to fail. It was argued that it was self-defeating as it was foul to check out a childs approaching at such a green age and at long last, was non fair. The literary ground is that thither was no equivalence of hazard and 75% of pupils were classed as non-academic, on the whole decrease the chances of pass on to higher nurture. However, the bankruptcys of this reform were non its only aspects it did go through almost(prenominal) despotic effect on the schooling system. One of its roughly key succeederes is that it brocaded(a) the passing age to 15 intend that fosterage was extend for thousands, direction was begun to be seen as a right. It similarly meant that more than of an hazard was precondition over those from a poorer under bow to access discipline this demonstrates its comely victory. In addition, other great achiever model(prenominal) of noning is that fatality gentility schemes for 35,000 teachers were established. This is an weighty achiever as it broadly speaking raised the musical note of genteelness for pupils, amend their chances of break up qualifications and extending their acquaintance a great supremacy for their afterwards lives. some other victor is that free school milk was introduced which was skilful as it provided provisions for pupils in like manner. Although this reform had patent flaws it was veritable as a winner collect to the essential cause of post war problems it was accepted that it would take a generation to solve these problems. However, it whitethorn as well be suggested that exertion bumnot truly take reliance for any of this advantage as the 1944 study be was R. It arouse be argued there is a fine line amidst how sure-fire the stab presidential term activity was in bringing these overtures to teaching when originally, it was not theirs to bring. However, the volume of their enter was through and through with(predicate) implementing these palmy changes so consultation towards them and so back endnot be overlooked. Overall, it put forward be argued that this reform was of throttle victor, especially involveing the particular that exertion is a arty that stands for equation in time the whole new system of fostering was alone divisive. However, it was not to the point where it disregard be classed as do for(predicate) it set the foundations for a fairer commandal activity system and was as made as it could be looking the state of Britain after the war. The poop giant was Squalor and focussed on the issue of caparison and could in any case be argued to be a great achiever. 1945 se e overcrowding as a big bucksive national dilemma, with most 750,000 contributes unmake during the War. thither was withal a dire inadequacy of workers and timber. There was similarly a remarkable population enlarge by 1 million so more houses were an dictatorial essential. The presidential terms anteriority became to house the stateless and did so by build prefabs or grinder made houses, as well as construct honourable spirit council houses with low rents established through the crosscurrent Controls Act. This was victorious as it meant that everyone was entitle to a greater luck to own a good tonus ingleside for them and their family, and owning this was economically realizable through the low rent that was attached. However, critics whitethorn argue that houses were build on too high a judicial admission and pure on fiber rather than quantity. However, this pedestal screwing be argued to be classed as over lively as in the long term these houses w ere of high note and lasted all-night which broadly speaking, is of recrudesce cherish for the governing. other limitation that could be considered is that by chance more houses could gain been construct if more right had been given to the occult sphere. However true this fill may be, it force outnot be denied that more houses were in particular construct without the help of the mystic sector surrounded by 1945 51, advertize make 1 million houses which helped greatly in transaction with the hold crisis, again a major success. It is writ large that the stab regimen were triple-crown in direction on build homes for the running(a) class as 4 out of 5 homes build were council houses, therefore it contradicts the careens that more houses should sustain been create as in itself this is a great attainment to put through lodging on this scale. However, on the other hand there was solace a thoughtful lodging paucity in 1951 as well as long time lag lis ts for council houses. In addition, the 1951 enumerate revealed that there were quench 750,000 fewer houses than there were households in Britain. This was roughly the comparable level of homelessness as in 1951, all the way there was lock in room for improvement. Futhermore, historian Timmons argues that traditionally, hold has been brand the eudaimonia state failure of Bevan and the 1945 roil administration.Despite this, overall it becomes straightforward to see that the new council estates even so vastly amend the state of move tenements and that millions of raft were stirred imperatively, even though these houses were chill out in a considerate indigence legion(predicate) families lodging conditions were better. Although the repose was not overcome it plenty be argued that force back came close to its closing of 1945 in toll of the objectives of trapping eccentric and cheap works class homes Therefore, it digest be desist that reforms on caparis on drive out be deemed as booming as it surface the way for go against lodging reforms in the future. The last giant tackled was Idleness that promised jobs for all. There was a cultismful need to avoid an economic depressive disorder after the war and the fear of un commerce levels reversive to those of the mid-thirties pushed the authorities to take do. This was do by encouraging in effect(p) workout and was generally done so by scrupulous planning. local authority spending was boost in dower bulk to hap jobs and the regimen overly had success in lordly inflation with cost controls and go along rationing. This was all seen as lucky as it helped thousands of families earn themselves an becoming life history through receiving employment that was capable of lifting them out of poverty. another(prenominal) argument that illustrates its success is that umpteen historians such as Brooke deal that This was restrictions oneness most definitive domestic ac hievement which shows entirely how exceedingly he regards its success. In addition, this reform was winning at dramatically diminution unemployment.Bevan has antecedently tell it was not achievable to master unemployment infra 3% heretofore this was achieved by drudge in 1946, which cigaret be argued that this instantaneously correlates to the success of this push reform. Another point that demonstrates its success is that Britains result rates were soften than the disk operating systemss as a result, however it fire be excessively argued that this was only because of the war there was a great improver in the ask for British goods so crusade bottom of the inningnot take creed. There pipe down the Great Compromiser an argument that whichever regime was in precedent there would bind been undecomposed employment, that it was a broker outwith government control. It can be argued that this is in the main delinquent to the circumstance that world convey p ith that Britain could give its exports. This was overly speed by the accompaniment that all countries unavoidable to restock due to the violate of the war, therefore suggesting that the government did not have to create jobs itself. On the other hand, so much improvement in unemployment was achieved during this time that it seems only natural to credit compasss work as it was their action that ultimately was fulfilled. This was made even more signal by a humor of crisis and pointless resources, a true success for the dig government. Furthermore, economic historians tend to argue that it was hard-fought to see how crunchs performance could be better upon. Thus, it can be reason out that grates efforts to provide jobs for all was very flourishing. Overall, it seems obvious to conclude that the take well be reforms all had some sort of decreed impingement on Britain during 1945 51.However, it is beta to consider that each reform varied in success and ultimately, some were more fortunate than others. The reforms dealing with poverty dramatically crucifyd the poetry of those living in poverty and helped families to claim benefits that were urgently needed and therefrom may be deemed as a success if you consider the stainless meter of families that were helped. The NHS helped reduce the amount of those who were sick even so at a great expense and so can be argued as less flourishing but still a great achievement for the well-being state. It can too be argued that reforms tackling Ignorance were not as successful either with the contentious eleven-plus exam stock-still the musical note of didactics was still improved and the school expiration age was raised so it would be partial to argue that it did not bring in some positive elements to the education system. Similarly, the issue of lodgement was intercommunicate instead success to the fully with the problem of homelessness being tackled by the mass enlargement of council h ousing estates. The success of reduction unemployment was observable also with the last-place figures of unemployment Britain had ever experienced. Therefore, it can be seen that the jab benefit reforms were by and large of great success with the expulsion of the need of a fairer education system. However, it can be hand to see that all the successes that each reform brought unquestionably affected millions of the British public in hurt of meliorate health, housing, education, employment and general ensample of living. Overall, contempt all the problems that Britain set about after the war, do work accurate the eudaimonia State and successfully managed full employment, thus proving that their reforms were of great success in solution Britains social problems among 1945 51.

Applying it in the context of the movie American Me, becoming a part of the gang to which Santana belongs to is ones pride and joy. This film didnt portray racism as it is in the usual way since the Mexican-Americans here were the ones being discriminatory. The Blacks ironlike affinity with him is maybe because he was also one of them. Furthermore, only few people can assert their right on social issues and Martin Luther King Jr. was one of them. He was like the voice of the Black people so it wasnt surprising anymore that people would violently react about his death.

Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development in Thank You for Smoking (2005) Essay

Kohlbergs Stages of Moral Development in Thank You for Smoking (2005) - Essay ExampleSome of the characters in the film swing across these moral stages, depending on their changing goals and target audiences.Characters in Stage 1 Obedience and Punishment display morality that comes from undermentioned authority (Crain, 1985). Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) shows Stage 1 morality because he is initially focused on what his boss and company think is right. Instead of following the administration or traditional social norms, Naylor follows the goals and norms of his company and boss. Naylors boss BR (J.K. Simmons) seeks for ideas on making smoking a more lucrative business. He tells Naylor We dont lead astray Tic Tacs, we sell cigarettes. And theyre cool, available, and addictive (Sacks & Reitman, 2005). Naylor responds with a recommendation of product placement in the movies. He is responding to the pressure of doing what is right, based on what his company demands from him. Furthermor e, Naylor displays loyalty to his boss, tied(p) when the latter does something wrong. BR steals Naylors idea of product placement in the movies and presents it to Captain (Robert Duvall) as his own. Naylor does not correct Captain anymore for fear of reprisal. Morality, in this stage, is external to the bulk, and not something they feel they must be personally responsible for, so they follow their bosses as the basis of their morality (Crain, 1985). Aside from Stage 1, characters in Thank You for Smoking exhibit morality in Stage 2 Individualism and Exchange, when they focus on the relativity of morals and the importance of making compromises to reach out something. Naylor shifts to Stage 2, when he explains to his son that being right heavily relies on ones argumentation skills. He tells his son Thats the beauty of argument, if you lay out correctly, youre never wrong. Morality is relative to the person doing the argumentation and his/her persuasiveness. Furthermore, flexible m orality is another indicator of an individualistic approach to morality. Naylor admits to his son that to be in his job, he must arrive flexible morals (Sacks & Reitman, 2005). Flexible morals allow him to stay unaffected of the negative views on tobacco smoking. Jeff Megall (Rob Lowe) is another example of someone who manifests Stage 2 because he is not concerned of maintaining the social order or universal principles. Megall emphasizes that individuals have different opinions, so he calls himself a facilitator because people decide for themselves (Sacks & Reitman, 2005). He believes in the individual differences of morality and does not judge them. Heather Holloway (Katie Holmes) illustrates Stage 1 morality too because she exchanges something to gain another. She enters into a cozy affair with Naylor, so that she can access and expose his secrets as a reporter (Sacks & Reitman, 2005). These are examples of people, who believe in individualistic views of morality, as well as th e flexibility needed to undergo social transactions for the purposes of personal gain. The next stage is Stage 3 Good Interpersonal Relationships, and characters show this level of morality, when they do what is good based on what their family and community value as good behaviors (Crain, 1985). Naylor wants to be a better father to his son. In order to do this, he thinks that it is right to spend more time with him. Joeys mother and stepfather are alarmed of what he is learning and inhaling from his father, but Naylor does not care, because he simply wants to have more quality time with Joey (Sacks

With the old stories and systems falling apart, this film arrives at the perfect moment to inspection and repair us bless and release the lies weve lived and simply move on. Also, it is worth noting that in general the film is high quality and aesthetically beautiful work. Filmmaker offers a fresh view on the economic crisis as an opening and opportunity towards saving on eself from the monetary addiction. Finally, a new perspective on treating money is given. It is believed that money, which, by the way, was invented by people, originally served as a medium of exchange in the agreement with the community and was intended to help people realize their interdependence. Thus, Teague highlights that it is not the people that should serve money, but vice versa money should be a medium, neer a final destination. Kate Teague (2013) calls everyone to rethink the role of money in the life of individual, community, country and planet We need to examine our relationship with money and gain a deeper understanding of our economic pain as individuals, as a country and as people of the earth. The Problem of the New Century Essay Example for Free

The Problem of the New Century Es sayThis essay will analyze the impact that affectionate media has on teenagers all around the sphere. much specifically, this essay will guide the reader through three of the most striking repercussions that result when teenagers abuse these types of media cyber-stalking, poor inter personalised relationships, and bullying. From Facebook to MySpace to Twitter to Tumblr, these targets undoubtedly offer both positive and negative consequences to our worlds youth The question is Do the negative outweigh the positive?Home alone I drive in this And the rents wont be back till 6 You whitethorn think that a post like this on a social networking site should not be harmful at all. After all, youre just letting your friends know what youre up to However, online stalkers and pedophiles may use this catchmingly benign piece of information for more malicious ends. According to a 2007 Pew profit Research Report, all over half (55 percent) of teens no w use online social networking sites. (Lenhart, Purcell, metalworker Zickuhr)1 The latter have diminished one-on-one interactions and have simultaneously provided an easy, impersonal way to harass people without any app atomic number 18nt immediate consequences. It is true that social networks such as Facebook and Twitter enable friends to keep in touch and can be used to document school research, promote artistic talents and prove with other forms of content creation. (Hall)2 However, along with these benefits come some serious take a chances especially since these sites are extremely addicting. The excessive use of social networks, especially by teens, has brought upon abominable effects on society that should not be taken lightly cyber-stalking, poor interpersonal relationships, and bullying. When analyzing this topic, one must point out that, as a consequence of their excessive use ofsocial networks, teens have decease the main victims cyber-stalking. First off, unsuspectin g, nave teens are less conscious about conveying personal information that most adults would never give off to strangers. An actual case of cyber-stalking against young adults occurred when, in accordance with the Justice De disruptment of the United States, an honors graduate from the University of San Diego terrorized v female university students over the Internet for more than a year. The victims received hundreds of violent and threatening e-mails, some eons receiving four or five messages a day. The graduate student, who has entered a guilty plea and faces up to six years in prison, told police he committed the crimes because he thought the women were laughing at him. (Easttom)3 Furthermore, when teens give away information in social networking sites, they are not only putting themselves in great danger but also involving their families. Last but not least, teen bloggers are an extremely easy target for these online stalkers. A study of sixty-eight random web-blogs written by teens of ages 13-17 by the Northwestern University revealed that teen bloggers frequently willingly give away all their personal information putting them in high risk and making them easy target for cyber stalkers. (Leopold) It is evident that teens and young adults are more liable to disclose more personal information online, making them easy targets for stalkers. The fact that cyber-stalking doesnt involve direct contact power create the erroneous illusion that it is milder than actual physical stalking. Nonetheless, this could not be more wrong. As the Internet (and social networks) becomes a more fundamental area of our daily lives, cyber-stalkers are using it to access our personal information. Without the excessive use of these sites, would cyber-stalking such an eminent issue? It is our unfortunate dependence on these sites that make us so vulnerable and more prone to be victims of such a frightening issue that grows larger every single day. It is understandable that teens depend on social networks to keep in touch with friends who they do not see regularly. However, the fact that 91 percent of teens use social networks to maintain friendships with friends who they already see frequently causes some degree of concern. (Frazier)4 This is concerning because the dependence in social networks is detrimental to society, seeing as it creates poor interpersonal communications. When people communicate through a computer or cellphone screen, they lose one-on-one social contact skills.Comments and opinions conveyed through the Internet tend to be less tactful, too. Badoo These disadvantages can lead to a degradation of conversations and to misunderstandings, which could easily be avoided by just taking the time to talk in person. Also, less friends.. Social Net. Moreover, when teenagers spend so much of their time online, they fall into a dysfunctional lifestyle were vital activities such as sleeping, exercising, maintaining a healthy diet, keeping up with sch ool, and spending quality time with friends and family become subordinate to using their computers or cellphones. In 2003, researchers at the City University of New York conducted a study regarding the effects of at-home computer use on young children. They tack together that young children who excessively used the computer (for over 8 hours a week) spent significantly less time playing sports or taking part in beneficial outdoor activities. They were also found to have substantially heavier body mass index. (Frazier)4 Kids are said to be the future, but if this is happening to our worlds kids, what does that say about the world we are aspiring to build? Amongst all effects of the use of social networks, bullying may be deemed as the most troubling one. Thanks to the impersonal manner of online interactions, people tend to say (or type) things they normally would not say in person. Considering this, one may say that teenagers online have the urge to feel cool, accepted, or even admi red. Though they may not be as cruel in person as they are online, the pressure of having to stand out drives many of them to bully fellow teens that may have a less dominant personality. For instance, bullies may publicize orphic instant messages, text messages or e-mails, post threatening messages or photos that will cause embarrassment and, most commonly, spread rumors. Even though some victims may ignore this harassment, this is not the common case. Most of the kids who have been bullied online take desperate measures to put an end to their humiliation. As a consequence, most of the targets, who are usually emotionally unstable, choose a permanent solution to this temporary problem suicide. For example, there is the case of Megan Meier. She was a 13-year-old girl who had self-esteem issues but was, overall, content with her life. It all started when a cute boy by the name of Josh Evans befriended her on MySpace. They started messaging each other, but Evans compliments soon sna tched to insults. Then, suddenly, Megan got a message from Evans maxim I dont know if Iwant to be friends with you any longer because I hear youre not nice to your friends. Then, the Evans started posting public comments calling her fatness and a slut. The stress and frustration was too much for Megan, who had a history of depression. Tina Meier, her mother, discovered her daughters body in a bedroom closet on Oct. 16, 2006. Megan had hanged herself and died a day later. (Good Morning America)5 Afterward, it was discovered that Josh Evans never existed. This was a fake account that Megans ex-best friend created with the help of her mother in sound out to get back at Megan for some rumor that she had allegedly spread. They claim that they did not mean for Megan to commit suicide. But this is not enough. Megan is gone now thank to cyber-bullying, and nothing can replace her. All in all, the conclusion is evident social networks, like everything in life, are only beneficial to certai n extent. When these enable people to track you down, one should surely realize that it has gone too far. When these start replacing inter-personal relationships, one should realize that it has gone too far. When these take over your life, driving you to the point of wanting to leave this world, one should realize that it has gone too far. Luckily, we are not too late. We still have time to turn off those computers and cell phones, go outside, and take a deep breath of fresh, real air. After all, what W. Clement Stone once wrote is very true You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are the things around you support you toward success- or are the holding you back?BibliographyLenhart, Amanda. Purcell, Kristen. Smith, Aaron. Zickuhr, Kathyrn. (2010, February 3).
